Edinboro made it into the top 10 of the final Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup fall standings, ranking eighth out of 161 NCAA Division II institutions that received points. Many other Division II programs did not receive any points.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Schools received points in a total of eight fall sports: men’s and women’s cross country; field hockey; football; men’s and women’s soccer; women’s volleyball; and men’s water polo.

Grand Valley leads Division II with 378 total points, with Colorado School of Mines second with 328 points and Western Washington third with 239.50 points. Augustana (SD) is fourth (210), and Alaska Anchorage rounds out the top five with 205.50 points. East Stroudsburg is the top PSAC school with 205 points, good for sixth place. St. Leo is seventh with 193 points, with Edinboro a point behind at 192. Adams State (190 points) and Carson-Newman (187 points) wrap up the top 10.

Gannon is ranked 37th with 114 points.

Edinboro’s ranking is even more impressive since the Fighting Scots only offer five of those eight sports and received points in only four sports. Edinboro received a huge boost from the women’s soccer program, which reached the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history and ended up picking up 64 points. The volleyball and men’s and women’s cross country teams also qualified for NCAA postseason play.
