Area high school graduates key players for Behrend men’s basketball

The Penn State Behrend men’s basketball roster includes four graduates of area high schools.

Those four athletes played key roles in the Lions’ season-opening 75-56 win against Thiel in Greenville on Wednesday night.

Freshman guard Andy Niland (Fairview) led the Lions with 17 points and five steals to start his college career.

Junior guard Malquan Pullium (Strong Vincent) added 10 points and three rebounds, while freshman guard Matt Colpoys (Cathedral Prep) had 10 points and three assists. Freshman guard Malike Brinson (Central Tech/Collegiate Academy) hit two 3-pointers on his way to eight points off the bench

Colpoys was a member of the Times-News All-District 10 team his senior year at Prep, while Niland, Pullium and Brinson each were multiple all-region first-teamers in high school.

Pullium averaged 8.3 points per game on 39.3 percent shooting his sophomore year with the Lions.

Behrend returns to action with its home opener against Fredonia on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
