The Penn State Behrend baseball team will open next season with a spring training trip to Fort Pierce, Fla. Behrend, which announced its 2016 schedule recently, will be playing nine varsity and four junior varsity games on its spring trip in the first week of March.
Behrend must replace nine graduates from last season’s 28-12-1 team. The Lions will rely on 19 returning letterwinners, including two McDowell grads — Brian Bohman and Alex Margraf.
Bohman, a junior catcher, was named the team’s Most Valuable Player after a solid sophomore season. Bohman was a second-team all-AMCC selection after he hit .368 and led the team with 11 doubles, four home runs and 35 RBIs. His 36 runs were tied for the most on the team and his 12 steals were one less than the team leader.
Margraf, a senior outfielder, was a second-team all-AMCC pick last spring after hitting .351 with 10 doubles, two homers and 22 RBIs. Margraf also had a .987 fielding percentage with just one error.
The Lions collected their fifth ECAC championship last season, winning the ECAC Southwest championship with a sweep of Waynesburg in May. Behrend has won five AMCC titles and finished the AMCC runner-up six times.
