Gannon’s Brennan named Good Works Team candidate

Gannon junior forward Brianna Brennan was named among the candidates for the 2016 Allstate Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Good Works Team.

Brennan is among 103 nominees from all levels of women’s basketball who have made significant contributions to their communities through volunteerism and civic service. In its fourth year, the Allstate WBCA and NABC Good Works Teams recognize playerswho have made outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement.

The final list of 20 award recipients will be unveiled in February.

Brennan, a childhood education major, is the lone representative of both the PSAC and the NCAA Atlantic Region on the team. She averages 13.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game through eight games this season for the Golden Knights. She is second on the team in scoring per game, third in rebounds and first in blocks.

Brennan started the Shooting for Smiles campaign as a sophomore in 2014-15. She took her experience serving at camps and clinics in her hometown of Woodhaven, Mich., and brought that to the erie area.

The Shooting for Smiles camp was designed for children ages 10 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Gannon student-athletes and coaches teach fundamental skills at the camp, and every participant is awarded a certificate and medal for playing.
