Edinboro leads the 2015-16 Dixon Trophy standings through the PSAC fall championship season.
Gannon is 11th out of 18 schools, while Mercyhurst is 13th.
The trophy is awarded at the end of each year to the conference’s most successful program based on PSAC playoff and/or regular-season finish. Standings are compiled based on average score for all PSAC championship sports each school sponsors.
Edinboro has an average score of 13.00 after competing in five of the nine fall championship sports. A women’s cross country conference championship, runner-up finish in women’s soccer and a PSAC West title in volleyball helped the Fighting Scots claim the lead after one season.
Shippensburg is second with an average of 12.69 points, followed by Slippery Rock at 12.07. Bloomsburg (12.06) is in fourth place, followed by California (11.38), Kutztown (11.19) and defending champions West Chester (10.89).
Gannon has a 9.38 average, while Mercyhurst is at 8.78.
Edinboro has the highest average on the women’s side at 16.83, nearly three points higher than the next highest female average (Shippensburg).
Slippery Rock won the PSAC football title and the men’s soccer championship and leads the standings for the men.
Gannon averaged 11.13 points on the women’s side and 7.63 points in the men’s standings. The women’s soccer team paced the Golden Knights with 16 points after winning the PSAC regular-season title.
Mercyhurst had an average of 10.88 on the men’s side and 7.1 on the women’s. The Lakers’ conference-winning men’s golf team (18 points) and men’s soccer squad (15) led the way.
Seven different institutions have won the Dixon Trophy in its 21 years of existence. Shippensburg has won it a conference-best seven times.
