Former Harbor Creek soccer standout Kristin Markiewicz, a senior defender for the University at Buffalo, claimed her first Mid-American Conference defensive player of the week honor Monday.
Markiewicz helped the Division I UB Bulls go 2-0 this past weekend.
On Friday, Markiewicz helped the UB defense allow only four shots on goal with the lone goal coming on a penalty kick in a 3-1 win over Toledo. On Senior Day on Sunday, Markiewicz had her best game of the season as she contributed an assist, her first this season and fourth of her career in a 3-0 win against Central Michigan. Markiewicz also saved a goal in the second half with a solid defensive play.
Markiewicz has helped UB dominate at home, with a 17-1-2 record over the past two seasons with 11 shutouts in those 20 matches. She is a vital part of a Bulls back line that has held the past eight opponents to five shots on goal or less while going 5-2-1. The Bulls are 9-5-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the MAC this season.
Markiewicz was the Region 6 Player of the Year in 2010 at Harbor Creek. She also was named all-state and was a two-time District 10 all-star with the Huskies.
Markiewicz, a pharmacy major with a 3.422 GPA, earned Academic All-MAC honors as a junior. She has scored three goals in her career with the Bulls.
