Cathedral Prep graduates Michael Douds and Justin Perez, both former baseball players with the Ramblers, have been selected for the 2016 Team USA Junior softball team.
The two former Ramblers are part of a 19-player team that will face the top 19-Under international Junior men’s teams in Midland, Mich., where they will seek the program’s first medal since 1985. The tournament is set for July 22-30.
Douds, a freshman infielder at Westminster, and Perez, a freshman outfielder/DH at Clarion, were Region 8 first-team all-stars last season with the Ramblers.
Perez returns as one of four veterans on the team which competed last year. Team USA finished fifth at the last World Baseball Softball Confederation Junior Men’s World Championship, which was held in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada in 2014. Team USA finished with a 7-4 record, their best in a Junior Men’s World Championship since 1985.
The Junior men’s team will start their season with a training camp in Irvine, Calif., on Jan. 1-4. Pitchers and catchers will attend a series of camps before the team meets in Normal, Ill., in June for a series of exhibition games and training.
